January 20, 2017 – San Diego, CA – Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary is pleased to announce the first inaugural Week of Giving, a community fundraiser for Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego. Held from January 23 through 31, the Week of Giving includes special events and activities throughout San Diego County with proceeds benefiting hospital programs.
“This inspiring week is an opportunity for the community to unite and support the patients and families at Rady Children’s,” said Mary Reynolds, president, Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary. “The auxiliary has worked hard to create an amazing schedule of events that touches every part of our community. This special week has something for everyone, from individuals to businesses and pet-lovers to sports enthusiasts.”
The Week of Giving includes the “Fill the Bucket” campaign on Tuesday, January 24. Volunteers with blue buckets will collect donations at schools, select Starbucks stores, street corners and special events all week. The “Keep Kids Safe” event on Thursday, January 26 will feature vehicle safety demonstrations at the Kohl’s on Balboa Avenue. On Friday, January 27, PetSmart Charities will host a special meet-and-greet with dogs from the PetSmart Paws for Hope therapy program. Animal lovers can bring their pets to the PetSmart (3396 Murphy Canyon Road) and get prizes and giveaways when their pet donates.
Numerous sporting events are part of the Week of Giving, including games with the San Diego Gulls and San Diego Sockers. A “Safe Skateboarding Showcase” hosted by the YMCA Krause Family Skatepark will highlight helmet safety and those who donated will meet action sports athletes, get autographs, win raffle prizes and more. The Sports Sunday Festival in Poway will include coffee and refreshments from The King’s Craft Coffee. In addition, youth sports teams will be collecting donations for Rady Children’s at their games throughout the county.
The Week of Giving includes dining opportunities at select restaurants that benefit Rady Children’s, including Chipotle (3680 Rosecrans Street, San Diego) Ruth’s Chris Steak House (1355 North Harbor Drive, San Diego), Blaze Pizza (127 N. El Camino Real, Encinitas), Firehouse Subs, Pizza Rev (7835 Highlands Village Place, San Diego), iDesserts (1608 India Street, San Diego), Helm’s Brewing Company Tasting Room (4896 Newport Ave, San Diego) and Rubio’s (location to be announced).
