Rady Children’s to Collaborate with Qualcomm Life on Wireless Health Technology

SAN DIEGO, Feb 22, 2012 – Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego has entered into a unique collaboration with Qualcomm Life Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, to improve the effectiveness of pediatric health care through advances in wireless technology. Rady Children’s will help leverage medical devices for remote patient care wirelessly integrated by Qualcomm Life’s 2net™ Platform. The 2net Platform is a cloud-based system that enables end-to-end wireless connectivity of medical devices while allowing medical device users and their physicians or caregivers to easily access biometric data.

“Developing effective wireless health technology is critical to improving the access parents and clinicians have to their child’s health information,” said Albert Oriol, Chief Information Officer at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego. “Qualcomm Life’s initiative will help parents and children stay connected outside the walls of the hospital, allowing our clinicians to more efficiently and effectively manage care and ultimately reduce costs.”

“We’re thrilled to be working with Rady Children’s Hospital, which has demonstrated a clear commitment to innovation and excellence in patient care,” said Rick Valencia, Vice President and General Manager of Qualcomm Life. “This initiative could provide transformative benefits for the Hospital’s patients and their families through improved delivery of health care services and information, and offers wireless health providers integrated in our 2net Ecosystem a network of entities that would serve as launch platforms for their 2net devices and future marketing trials at a premier pediatric hospital.”

The collaboration was first announced on Dec.7 at the 3rd annual mHealth Summit in Washington, D.C. Qualcomm Life’s 2net Platform is being exhibited at the 2012 HIMSS Annual Conference in Las Vegas from February 20-24.
