Rady Children’s to Offer Free Car Seat Inspections Made Possible by Kohl’s Department Stores

San Diego – Nov. 21, 2014 – The Kohl’s Transportation Safety Program at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego will offer free car seat inspections on Saturday, Nov. 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Kohl’s Mira Mesa Store located at 8140 Mira Mesa Blvd., in San Diego.  Inspections are performed by technicians from the Kohl’s Transportation Safety Program, made possible by Kohl’s Department Stores. The car seat inspections can be booked by appointment through the website, kohlscarsafety.org, or by walk-up.

“The Kohl’s Transportation Safety Program is important because it’s designed to assist families with how to properly install car seats and also help parents promote safe driving habits,” said Rady Children’s Associate Chief Nursing Officer Lesley Ann Carlson.

Families can learn about transportation safety at the event through safety stations which educate and simulate real-life situations. The first 20 families to attend the car seat demonstrations will receive a free car seat.  Car seats will also be given out during the event through opportunity drawings. Kohl’s will present Rady Children’s with a check for $184,000, which will continue to support the Kohl’s Transportation Safety Program which educates the public on transportation and pedestrian safety and includes car seat inspections.

Since 2005, Kohl’s has donated more than $1.5 million to Rady Children’s.  Kohl’s commitment to the Hospital is made possible through the Kohl’s Cares® cause merchandise program. Through this initiative, Kohl’s sells $5 books and plush toys where 100 percent of net profit benefits children’s health and education programs nationwide, including hospital partnerships like this one. Kohl’s has raised more than $257 million dollars through this merchandise program.  In addition to the merchandise program, Kohl’s Cares® features the Kohl’s Cares® Scholarship Program, which last year recognized more than 2,300 young volunteers with more than $400,000 in scholarships and prizes.  Through Kohl’s Associates in Action volunteer program, more than 834,000 Associates have donated more than 2.7 million hours of their time since 2001, and Kohl’s has donated more than $79 million to youth-focused nonprofit organizations.  Kohl’s also offers fundraising gift cards for schools and youth-serving organizations.  For more information, visit www.Kohls.com/Cares.
