Healing Environment
The Healing Environment at Rady Children's
Rady Children's Healing Arts program is fully integrated into the pediatric clinical environment. Originally developed when the Rose Pavilion was constructed in 1993, the program now engages departments throughout the Hospital, creating an environment designed to enrich the experience of patients, families and staff. The program is in concert with our mission to restore, sustain and enhance the health and developmental potential of children through excellence in care, education, research and advocacy.
Rady Children’s has hundreds of works of visual art, English- and Spanish-speaking storytellers, numerous musicians, visual artists in residence, a therapeutic harp program, and several galleries featuring community and children’s art.
We have several healing gardens for patients and their families. Each involved commissioning many artists and designers to transform lackluster courtyards into whimsical outdoor retreats. These peaceful sanctuaries provide quiet respite for patients, families and staff. promoting health and well-being for all who visit Rady Children’s.
To reduce stress and promote healing, we use:
We combined all that we know about children and their needs with the growing body of knowledge about the interaction of people and places: the impact of light and color, of texture and tone, of sounds and symbols. We turned to the arts, as well as tto he sciences, to help our children heal.
