Pharmacy Careers
Inpatient Pharmacy Services are available 24 hours a day for all patient care areas. A centralized pharmacy provides a spacious, organized and well-equipped environment for the performance of pharmaceutical functions, including storage, compounding, computer order entry, dispensing, distribution and drug information resources and personnel that staffs a satellite pharmacy in operation in Rady Children's Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.
Clinical Services are provided to all of Rady Children's patients. Decentralized clinical pharmacists are assigned to the following areas: NICU, PICU and the Peckham Center (Hematology/Oncology). A clinical pharmacist is also assigned to the pharmacokinetics service seven days a week. Clinical pharmacists participate on physician rounds to aid in the assessment and monitoring of patient drug regimens. Our pharmacists respond to codes and traumas. Our pharmacists are also charged with providing continuing presentations to the other pharmacists and healthcare providers at Rady Children's. The clinical pharmacists within their specialty are a resource to other pharmacists and the medical and Hospital staff. The pharmacy employees a research pharmacist to oversee all medication investigational studies.
Education and growth are important components to the success of the Pharmacy Department, and we stay committed to offering opportunities for all pharmacy staff members, residents and students.
Rady Children's is partners with the University of California, San Diego Medical Center for pediatric services, providing training for medical students, residents and fellows. With this unification, liver and kidney transplant services have been implemented, and Rady Children's will soon have an outpatient hemodialysis center.
Our Pharmacy Department offers a general pharmacy practice residency program, and we provide rotations for pharmacy students for UCSF, UOP and UCSD Pharmacy Schools. In addition, we have a pharmacy student intern program for UCSD School of Pharmacy, employing two interns.
