Radiology Careers
The Radiology Department at Rady Children's provides a full-service area of care for comprehensive treatment. Board-certified radiologists specialize in pediatric radiology and know how to obtain various images of small patients and what to look for in those images. All the machines have been manufactured or specially calibrated to allow the radiologists and technologists to use the lowest possible doses for small patients.
Services offered by the Radiology Department include:
- Routine diagnostic X-rays.
- Fluoroscopy procedures, including upper or lower G.I. tract, cystoscopy and chest fluoroscopy.
- Computerized Tomography (CT Scan).
- Ultrasound with Doppler applications.
- Nuclear Medicine with S.P.E.C.T. (Single Photon Emission Computerized Tomography).
- Angiography.
- Orthopantomography (Panorex).
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) and Interventional Radiology provided by affiliated services.
Computerized Tomography (CT Scan)
Computerized Tomography combines X-ray technology with computer science to produce cross-sectional images of any body part. The computer stacks horizontal slices from two-dimensional CT scans to build a 3-D image, all done using low-dose radiation. The image can be turned, twisted and manipulated for different views. These images allow radiologists to accurately identify problems, making diagnosis easier and treatment more precise.
