The Clinical Ladder at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego is a living structure. New competencies are acknowledged and rewarded as nursing care for complex patients changes and expands. The Labor Management Committee, composed of UNOCH (United Nurses of Children’s Hospital) and Management Representatives, revise the qualifying activities of Clinical Nurse III in a continuing dialogue.
Clinical Nurse
Newly graduated nurse during the first year of practice.
Clinical Nurse II
Staff Nurse who demonstrates and maintains all competencies for core area and float competencies for units within the nurse’s region.
Clinical Nurse III
Expert with three or more years of pediatric experience who demonstrates and maintains all core competencies and participates in additional clinical and professional activities.
