Dr. Alicia Cantu is a pediatric hospitalist at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego and a clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of California, San Diego in the Division of Pediatrics and Hospital Medicine. She is also the Medical Director of San Diego Juvenile Hall. She is actively involved with the education and mentorship of pediatric hospital medicine fellows, pediatric residents from UC San Diego and the Navy, in addition to UC San Diego medical students.

She received her undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of California, Berkeley. She completed her medical training at Tufts University School of Medicine and then continued her Pediatric Residency at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles County Medical Center.

Dr. Cantu is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care.

She has a special interest in treating underserved vulnerable pediatric populations. She has also given talks about treating abused children in the Juvenile Justice System at Correctional Medicine and Child Abuse conferences.

Dr. Cantu works closely with the San Diego Public Health Department to improve screening, treatment and monitoring of infectious diseases in the Juvenile correctional setting. She started and maintains an active vaccination program in Juvenile Hall and recently, Dr. Cantu started a Tele-Medicine program to provide care to remote juvenile corrections locations in San Diego and Imperial counties.
