Dr. Nicholas M. Holmes is chief of the Division of Urology at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego and a clinical professor of health sciences at UC San Diego School of Medicine.

A native of Washington, D.C. and has lived in California for nearly 20 years. He completed his undergraduate studies at Georgetown University with a B.S. in biology in 1989. He continued his studies at Georgetown University in the School of Medicine by completing his doctorate of medicine in 1993.

In 2002-2003, he attended Johns Hopkins University School of Professional Studies in Business Education, where he completed the Business of Medicine Certificate Program. In 2011, Dr. Holmes completed a MBA program focusing on healthcare finance at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

During medical school, he discovered his passion for surgery and the care of pediatric patients and went on to complete residency training in urology at the Naval Medical Center San Diego and fellowship training in pediatric urology at the University of California, San Francisco.

During his 15-year career in the United States Navy, he was selected to represent the Navy Medical Corps in its recruiting/marketing poster campaign. Also, he served as the head urologist of the Navy as the Specialty Advisor to the Navy Surgeon General assisting in shaping urology health care policy, manpower, and graduate medical education. In addition, he served as the Chairman of the Department of Urology at the Naval Medical Center San Diego from 2005-2007.

In 2007, he completed his military service and became the Chief, Division of Pediatric Urology for Rady Children's Specialist of San Diego at Rady Children's Hospital. In 2009, he also joined the faculty in the Department of Surgery-Division of Urology at University of California of San Diego and is presently a Clinical Professor of Health Sciences.

Dr. Holmes' specific area of expertise in Pediatric Urology includes hypospadias reconstruction, vesicoureteral reflux, urinary tract obstruction, genitourinary malignancies and pre-natal diagnosis of urologic problems. Dr. Holmes is committed to insure the best pediatric urology is delivered to the children of the greater San Diego area.
