Our interdisciplinary team provides comprehensive care for children and adolescents with general gastroenterology disorders; liver disorders, including hepatitis, fatty liver, and biliary atresia; inflammatory bowel disease; motility and functional disorders; obesity; peptic disorders; eosinophilic esophagitis; polyposis and colon polyps; and feeding difficulties.

We also recently launched a motility center to care for children and adolescents with motility and functional disorders. The center is the first of its kind on the West Coast and one of only a handful of pediatric motility programs in the country.

To advance the understanding of digestive and liver disorders, to find new non-noninvasive methods for diagnosing these disorders, and to discover new treatments, we conduct extensive clinical, translational, and basic science research.

Additionally, we are committed to the education and training of future leaders in pediatric gastroenterology and provide accredited training to pediatric and adult gastroenterology fellows, residents, and medical students from the University of California, San Diego as well as other programs. The Division also has a National Institutes of Health-funded T32 training program in association with the Adult GI Division at UC San Diego.

Division Achievements:

  • Has received more than $8 million in external research funding, with several projects funded by the National Institutes of Health.
