Limb Deficiency Clinic

Director: Maya E. Pring, M.D.
This Clinic is dedicated to meeting the unique needs of children and adolescents who are lacking a limb or limbs. An outstanding team of specialists, including an orthopedic surgeon, a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist, nurses, prosthetists, orthotists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and a social worker are all trained to provide the special care required by a child who is missing a limb. We are committed to helping your child reach his or her optimal physical and mental function.

Working together as a team - with you, your child, your therapist and your pediatrician - the Clinic staff can minimize trips to the hospital and maximize rehabilitation gains for your child. A comprehensive support program and a consistent rehab plan achieve outcomes that permit children with amputations to lead very normal and exciting lives. This is true whether the amputation is congenital or acquired through trauma, vascular injury, tumors, infections or other medical problems.
Mentoring and support groups are an important component of our program. If you would like to meet another child or adult who has experienced and overcome some of the issues you are experiencing, or if you would like to participate in our mentor program, please call Dr. Pring at 858-966-6789
The Clinic is affiliated with Shriners Hospital in Los Angeles, and their medical director for prosthetics and orthotics also is available in our Clinic for consultation and evaluation.
Appointments: Any family with a child with a limb deficiency can come to the Clinic for resources, information and support. Call 858-576-5999 for information or to make an appointment for a complete team evaluation. The Limb Deficiency Clinic is on the second Tuesday of each month at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego, 3020 Children's Way, San Diego, CA.
