Radiology
The Radiology Department at Rady Children's provides comprehensive imaging services. All of our radiologists are board certified and specially trained to evaluate pediatric images. And all of our equipment enables our radiologists and technologists to use the lowest possible radiation dose while providing the highest quality images.
Rady Children’s is the first children’s hospital to offer EOS, a state-of-the-art orthopedic imaging machine that produces head-to-toe images of patients in a standing position. The EOS produces high quality images using significantly less radiation than a standard X-ray. This is particularly important for children with spinal abnormalities, who will be monitored throughout their lifetime. View a video on EOS and scoliosis screening.
Additionally, Rady Children’s has highly advanced computed tomography (CT) equipment -- a 64-slice CT scanner. Using this incredible technology, physicians can get detailed images within seconds while exposing the patient to less radiation than with standard CT machines.
Imaging services/procedures offered include:
- Diagnostic X-rays
- Fluoroscopy, including upper or lower G.I. tract procedures, cystoscopy and chest fluoroscopy
- Computed tomography (CT)
- Ultrasound with Doppler applications
- EOS (orthopedic imaging)
- Nuclear medicine with S.P.E.C.T. (single photon emission computerized tomography)
- Angiography
- Orthopantomography (Panorex)
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) and interventional radiology (provided by affiliated services)
