Rady Children's Surgery Services provides comprehensive surgical care for infants and children. Pediatric surgical services is one of the few specialties recognized by the American Board of Surgery requiring further fellowship training after general surgery residency. Because of this requirement, all pediatric general surgeons maintain additional board certification and proficiency necessary to care for patients ranging from very-low-birthweight premature babies to growing adolescents.
Our pediatric general surgeons specialize in the treatment of common and uncommon pediatric surgical conditions, including:
- Newborn anomalies of the airway, gastrointestinal tract and genito-urinary system
- Pediatric tumors
- Hernias, hydroceles and congenital abdominal wall defects
- Appendicitis
- Pediatric trauma
- Pectus excavatum (sunken chest) using the Nuss procedure -- Center of Excellence
Surgery is performed in state-of-the-art surgical suites at the Warren Family Surgical Center.
