Irvin A. Kaufman, M.D.
a.k.a Dr. Buzz
Then & Now
Yes, yes, his real name is Irvin A. Kaufman, M.D., but almost everyone knows him as Buzz, and Buzz knows more about Children’s than almost anyone!
Now Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Health Affairs, Dr. Buzz started here as a resident in 1976. He has served as Director of Inpatient Services, the Pediatric Residency Program Director, and, along with Dr. Peterson, Children’s Hospital Emergency Transport (CHET). He was also a founding member of the Children’s Associated Medical Group (CAMG) and served as president from 1983-1998.
As a physician, teacher and administrator, Buzz demonstrates all that is great about Children’s: His unwavering dedication to the hospital and personal integrity are matched only by a profound love for kids – the perfect combination for a pediatrician who also helps coordinate the business end of the institution.
He was also great fun for Channel 10 viewers on his weekly “50 Ways to Keep Your Child Healthy with Dr. Buzz” segment. But he says, “I’m not giving up my day job.” Good thing, too, as Children’s wouldn’t be the same without him.
