Orientation Checklist

Orientation: Report to the Emergency Care Center 30-45 minutes prior to the first day of your rotation. It is important to have your paperwork ready and that you get your badge, parking sticker, proximity card and pass-code before your first day at Rady Children’s. Please allow about an hour to complete this process.

Computer Access Code: Fax your completed GME, Confidentiality Agreement and Badge Request forms to Shaela Parrott, GME Coordinator, 858-966-7477. Turnaround time to enter residents into the system is approximately three weeks once we receive the forms.

These forms must be filled out and turned in to obtain a computer access code. You will receive your private computer access code from Shaela Parrott only if you have turned in updated forms, which will allow you to access patient information.

Call Shaela to confirm that she has received your paperwork at 858-576-1700, ext. 6138.

Navy residents: Please provide a copy of your travel orders to both Shaela Parrott and Monica Meza at 858-966-8036.

ID Badge, Proximity Card, Parking Sticker:
All personnel are required to wear a Rady Children’s ID badge when at the Hospital.
You will be issued a proximity card to access the Emergency Care Center doors.
You can obtain your ID badge in Building #17 only after submitting all GME forms. You will also need a proximity card to access the parking structure and Hospital doors. To obtain a proximity card, contact Monica Meza at 858-966-8036. Badge office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Epic Training: You will be sent a login and password for Chexweb to complete the EPIC software online training. This training is required to start your rotation.

ECC Reports and Dictation: There is a diction template on the website; please refer to that as a guide as to what your written notes should include.  If you have any questions about the completeness of your notes, please be sure to review them with the attending. When dictating a chart, always enter your unique dictator ID number, not the attending’s dictator ID number. Then, state the name of the attending who will be reviewing and signing the dictation. This is important so that the correct attending is assigned the deficiency. The dictator ID number is to be used only by the person it is issued to. Please do not share your unique dictator ID number. Please call Transcriptions ext. 5905 to obtain your dictator number.

Tools: Please arrive with all of your tools, including stethoscope, reflex hammer, insufflator and black ink pen.

ECC House Staff Manual: A manual has been created to provide you with the information needed to begin working in the ECC. It is required reading prior to the first day of your rotation.

Conferences: There is an X-Ray conference scheduled on the first Wednesday of each month and an ED Attending Lecture conference scheduled on the second Wednesday of each month.

Working Schedule: Your schedule is available on www.amion.com You will be emailed when the schedule is available. Contact Sammie Hail at shail@rchsd.org with any questions about your schedule. If you are ill, please notify your chief resident, the ED attending at 858-966-8800, and Monica Meza 858-229-2459.

Articles: A list of articles has been created for you to read before the first day of your rotation.
