Tutorial
Training in the protection of the rights and welfare of human subjects in research is a requirement of the Federal Regulations and is a commitment for the Rady Children’s Office for Human Subjects Protection. The Office for Human Subject Protection requires that all staff and research team members involved in human subject research have basic certification in human subject protection.
Rady Children’s online tutorial is offered as a means for individuals conducting research at Rady Children's to learn more about the specifics of how the process of human subjects research review is conducted at Rady Children's and some important areas involving the protection of human subjects. If you have an NIH grant that requires training, this tutorial will satisfy this requirement.
Human subject protection training is an ongoing, changing process. The Rady Children’s tutorial is an annual requirement for each member of the study team. However, it is also anticipated that all investigators and staff involved in human subject research will expand their knowledge awareness as new information and material become available from the Office for Human Subjects Protection, Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other protection agencies.
It is also recommended that the online tutorial available through The National Cancer Institute be used for a general introductory and overview of the history of research, key elements and ethical concerns.
