Laura Barba, N.P.
Laura Barba is a family nurse practitioner and certified diabetes educator, with about 20 years of experience working with patients with diabetes. Laura’s focus is addressing the complexities of day-to-day life of patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes from childhood through adulthood. Her main areas of interest are helping patients with type 1 diabetes transition from pediatric to adult care and assisting vulnerable individuals/populations access quality diabetes care. Along with working in our division, she sees patients at UC San Diego.

Ileana Scott, D.N.P., PPCNP-BC
Ileana specializes in managing pediatric obesity in newborns to young adults, with an emphasis on family behavioral modification as it pertains to healthy lifestyle changes. She has a special interest and expertise in conditions associated with pediatric obesity, including hyperlipidemia, pre-diabetes, vitamin D deficiency and polycystic ovarian syndrome. Ileana has a doctoral degree from the University of San Francisco, a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the University of San Francisco and a Master of Science in Nursing/Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (Cum Laude) from the University of San Diego. Her professional memberships include the Obesity Society and the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Outside of work, Ileana enjoys hiking, running, going to the beach and spending quality time with her family.

Michelle Lopez Silva, M.S.N., CPNP
Michelle is a board-certified pediatric nurse practitioner specializing in pediatric endocrinology. She also provides care to children with medical conditions associated with obesity, such as hyperlipidemia, pre-diabetes, fatty liver disease and polycystic ovarian syndrome. Michelle joined our team in 2013 after earning her nurse practitioner degree. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Point Loma Nazarene University and her master’s degree in nursing from California State University, Long Beach. Michelle’s professional memberships include the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society and the American Diabetes Association. She stays involved with the diabetic community by volunteering at Camp Wana Kura and attending local JDRF walks. Outside of the work, Michelle enjoys spending time with her husband and three daughters. She also enjoys hot yoga, running, cooking and traveling.
