Rady Children's Specialists

Evaluation and Stipend

Description of Evaluation of Training Program and Trainee

The trainee will be given a written evaluation 3-4 months into training and upon completion of the fellowship. The fellow’s clinical research project will also be evaluated. The fellow will have the opportunity to evaluate his/her experience with us as well. We appreciate this feedback, as it enables us to change and improve the program as needed.

Total Number of Trainees in the Department

Ten orthopedic residents from UC San Diego Medical Center and five residents each from the Navy/Army and Air Force rotate through Rady Children’s annually, with four to five residents present at any given time. In addition, there is one research resident from UC San Diego who is at Rady Children’s for a full year. We have four pediatric orthopedic fellows per year, as well as several international fellows that rotate through for three to 12 months to shadow faculty.

Stipend

The fellowship stipend is approximately $78,000 per year (including supplemental on-call pay) with total compensation of more than $100,000 (including benefits).

Benefits include:

  • Health insurance for fellow and dependents
  • Health spending account
  • Academic educational expenses ($3,500)
  • Relocation expenses up to $2,000
  • DEA and California licensing fees

Medical Licensure

A valid California medical (and fluoro) license and DEA certificate are required. The program will cover the expense of obtaining these.
