As part of our ongoing efforts to improve access to and services for children in need of therapies, Rady Children’s Outpatient Speech-Language Pathology has developed the following referral criteria, identifying those whose needs may best be addressed at Rady Children’s and those who would best be served via other resources, as identified below.

Early Intervention (Birth to 3 years)
All diagnoses

Preschool and Kindergarten (3 to 6 years)
All diagnoses when the children are not receiving services under an IEP or via their school

School age (6 years and older)

  • Cleft Palate/Craniofacial
  • Cochlear Implant Pre- and Post-Surgery
  • Voice disorders (Transgender Voice, Vocal Nodules, Polyps, Hyper-function, etc.)
  • Vocal Cord Dysfunction (VCD)
  • Alternative Augmentative Communication (AAC)
  • Apraxia of Speech (PROMPT)
  • Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD) following audiological assessment
  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
  • Inpatient to Outpatient Transfers
  • Feeding and Swallowing Disorders
  • Speaking Valve
  • Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (VitalStim)
  • Tongue Thrust

We also provide social pragmatic groups for patients with Autism Spectrum Disorder or difficulty interacting with peers.
