Robotic Surgery Program

Rady Children’s, in partnership with the University of California, San Diego, now offers robotic surgery as a minimally invasive option for certain pediatric urologic  procedures, including pyeloplasty for ureteropelvic junction obstruction and ureteral reimplantation for vesicoureteral reflux.

The benefits of robotic surgery and minimally invasive surgery include:

  • Smaller incisions.
  • Reduced blood loss.
  • Shorter hospital stays.
  • Less pain after surgery.
  • Faster recovery.
  • Improved appearance of scars.

Kelly Swords, M.D., M.P.H., leads the Robotic Surgery team, which includes a highly trained surgical support staff and pediatric anesthesiologist.
