Preschool

For preschool-aged children who are typically developing:

Full-day enrollment (9.5 hours) is required for most classrooms, Monday-Friday, with the option of extended hours at an additional fee. Some limited part-time enrollment is available. All children receive a developmental screening prior to enrollment to ensure appropriate placement. Please see our list of foundational skills for children who are typically developing.
 

For preschool-aged children with or at risk for an autism spectrum disorder:

1. We offer half-day inclusion preschool programs for children with or at risk for an autism spectrum disorder. These programs are available on a fee-for-service basis to children throughout San Diego County who are ready for an inclusion setting, but need more support than a community preschool provides. The morning program is open from 8:30-12:00 with specialized inclusion services from 8:30-11:30am; the afternoon program is open from 2-6 p.m., with specialized inclusion services from 2:30-5:30 p.m. Each classroom is staffed by two specially trained early childhood educators and an autism education associate with extensive training in autism- specific methodologies. Consultation is also provided by a behavior specialist. When a spot becomes available, eligibility is determined through a developmental screening given by the Alexa’s PLAYC clinical team. 2. Private insurance plans may cover Alexa's PLAYC tuition for children with an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis, depending on your individual plan and coverage for autism specific ABA services. If your child is scheduled for a screening at Alexa's PLAYC, we will work with you to determine whether or not our program is a covered benefit under your specific insurance plan.
