Neuro-Oncology Program
Rady Children’s Neuro-Oncology Program is the only program in the San Diego region providing comprehensive care to children and young adults with brain and spinal cord tumors.
We have an expert multidisciplinary team, with physicians from the divisions of Hematology-Oncology, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Radiology, Endocrinology, Rehabilitative Medicine, Ophthalmology and Pathology.
State-of-the-art treatment is provided for both newly diagnosed and recurrent tumors; advanced neurosurgery procedures, targeted radiation oncology and the latest biologic therapies are available to our patients through our alliance with the UC San Diego Moores Cancer and research collaborations with the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute and The Scripps Research Institute.
In late 2013, advanced proton beam therapy will be available to our patients at the Scripps Proton Therapy Center, the only proton beam radiation center on the West Coast. Patients referred from out of the area will be followed by our Neuro-Oncology team during their treatment. Read more about the Scripps Proton Therapy Center.
Research and Clinical Trials
Through our alliance with the UC San Diego Moores Cancer and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and participation in collaborative clinical trials groups, we have an active research program to discover better treatments and ultimately, find cures. Click here for our active clinical trials.
Education and Resources
As part of our program, patients and their family members have access to a host of resources on pediatric brain and spinal cord tumors.
One of the ways we connect families to these resources is through our annual Neuro-Oncology Family Day for past and current patients and their families. Adult family members are invited to participate in a series of educational lectures provided by various physicians and faculty members. Patients and their siblings can enjoy activities such as art therapy, yoga and therapeutic play. A resource fair showcases information on a variety of organizations, community groups and programs specifically for brain and spinal cord patients. This is a day when families have the opportunity to meet each other and bond over shared experiences and similar journeys.
Neuro-Oncology Family Day is Saturday, June 1, 2013. Sign up today to attend! (En español)
