Scars can be traumatic for a child, especially if they are disfiguring or restrict what the child can do. With highly advanced technology, we can now treat these scars and make a profound difference in children’s lives.
Scar laser technology has been available since 2010 and has been used on adults with great success. In our Dermatology Division, we are now using this technology to help the growing number of children we see with all types of scars.
Using the highly advanced UltraPulse fractional CO2 laser, we can treat a broad range of scars in children and infants, including
- Scars caused by trauma or abuse
- Burn scars
- Acne scars
- Surgical scars
This laser has the highest pulse power and energy of any fractional CO2 system available, which means less pain and complications for our patients. It also allows for customized treatment of each type of scar.
Andrew Krakowski, M.D., performs the scar laser procedure. He received training on the laser at the Naval Medical Center San Diego, which is using this technology for its Wounded Warrior program and getting impressive results. With our young patients at Rady Children’s, Dr. Krakowski is getting excellent outcomes as well.
