Rady Children's Hospital San Diego

Safety and Security

We do our best to provide a safe place for our patients, families and staff. To do this, we need your help.

Identification Badges

We require that Hospital staff members wear picture ID badges. Please call Security at ext. 3333 if you see a caregiver not wearing a badge.

We give parents or legal guardians wrist bands for identification purposes. Please wear your wrist band at all times. It lets our staff know that you can be in the Hospital after 8 p.m.

All other visitors must wear an ID badge at all times. Visitor should get their ID badges at the information desks at our Frost Street and Rose Pavilion entrances.

Security Services

Security staff are on-duty 24 hours a day; we're happy to escort you to your car after dark or to help you in other situations if you feel uncomfortable.

To call Security, dial ext. 3333.

Your Child's Personal Items

You are welcome to bring in items that make your child feel secure and comfortable. Please be sure to label them with your child's name.

Smoking

We do not permit smoking inside any Hospital building. If you wish to smoke, please use the designated smoking areas outside.

Balloons

We do not permit latex balloons inside any Hospital building. Children can choke on the fragments when they burst. Many children are also allergic to the latex. Mylar balloons are safe and are fine to bring into the Hospital.  You can also purchase Mylar balloons in Rady Children’s Gift Shops.

After-Hours Access and Visitors

We lock most Hospital doors each night at 8 p.m. The only access into the Hospital after 8 p.m. is through the Sam S. and Rose Stein Emergency Care Center (at the entrance of the Rose Pavilion).
