Rady Children’s and Kohl’s Join Forces to Offer Free Car Seat Inspections
(Oct. 25, 2013) — Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego and Kohl’s have joined forces to offer free car seat inspections to the public at Kohl’s, 134 N. El Camino Real in Encinitas, during a Halloween-themed event on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Inspections are performed by technicians through the Kohl’s Transportation Safety Program at Rady Children’s, made possible by Kohl’s Department Stores through the Kohl’s Cares® cause merchandise program. Local radio stations KyXy 96.5 and ENERGY 103.7 will be on site promoting car safety and the car seat inspections.
Kohl’s will make a check presentation for $150,565 to Rady Children’s for the Kohl’s Transportation Safety Program at 12:30 p.m. The donation supports the Kohl’s Transportation Safety Program at Rady Children’s, which educates the public on transportation and pedestrian safety and includes car seat inspections. During these inspections, parents are educated in safety in and around vehicles, and the technicians ensure that parents can install their car seats before they leave.
The car seat inspections can be booked by appointment through the Kohl’s Transportation Safety website, kohlscarsafety.org, or by walk-up, based on availability. Families can learn about transportation safety at the event through safety stations that educate and simulate real-life situations. There will be giveaways for kids, and attendees are encouraged to come in costume.
Since 2004, Kohl’s has donated more than $1.3 million to Rady Children’s. The donations were collected from Kohl’s stores located in the San Diego area.
Kohl’s commitment to Rady Children’s is made possible through the Kohl’s Cares cause merchandise program. Through this initiative, Kohl’s sells $5 books and plush toys, with 100 percent of net profit benefiting children’s health and education programs nationwide, including hospital partnerships like this one. Kohl’s has raised more than $231 million through this merchandise program.
In addition to the merchandise program, Kohl’s Cares features the Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program, which last year recognized more than 2,300 young volunteers with more than $400,000 in scholarships and prizes. Through Kohl’s Associates in Action volunteer program, more than 669,000 associates have donated more than 2.2 million hours of their time since 2001, and Kohl’s has donated more than $63 million to youth-focused nonprofit organizations.
Kohl’s also offers fundraising gift cards for schools and youth-serving organizations. For more information, visit www.Kohls.com/Cares.
