Dr. Ching Wang is associate director of the Pediatric Neuromuscular Disorder Program at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego and a clinical professor at UC San Diego School of Medicine.

Prior to working at Rady Children's, Dr. Wang was a neurology attending physician at the University of Missouri, Stanford University and Texas A&M University.

Dr. Wang's clinical practice includes general pediatric neurology with special interests in pediatric neuromuscular disorders and neurodevelopmental disorders. Both his clinical and research interests have been in the genetics of and treatments for pediatric motor neuron diseases, such as spinal muscular atrophy, and neurodevelopmental disorders including autism spectrum disorders. Dr. Wang was a member of the research team at Columbia University that first identified the SMA genetic locus on chromosome 5q and contributed to the early concept of modification of gene expression as a molecular basis for SMA gene therapy. He has devoted a large portion of his research and clinical efforts to identifying the genetic basis and effective treatments for children with autism spectrum disorder.

A graduate of Northwestern University School of Medicine, earning both medical and doctoral degrees, Dr. Wang completed his pediatric internship and residency at Children's Medical Center of Dallas, Southwestern Medical School, and his pediatric neurology fellowship at the Neurological Institute, Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. He went on to complete postdoctoral research in human molecular genetics at the Department of Genetics and Development at Columbia University.

Dr. Wang is board certified in both pediatrics and in psychiatry and neurology, with special competence in child neurology. He is a member of the Child Neurology Society, American Academy of Neurology, Society for Neurosciences and American Society of Human Genetics.

Among his interests outside of medicine, Dr. Wang is a prolific choral singer and has sung in church choirs, barbershop harmonic groups and community choral groups. He is also an enthusiastic table tennis player and participates in local and national tournaments regularly.
