U.S. News Ranks Rady Children’s Among Nation’s Best Children’s Hospitals

Hospital achieves rankings in all 10 specialties surveyed

San Diego, CAJune 26, 2018 U.S. News & World Report today announced the results of its comprehensive survey to identify the top children’s hospitals in the country in the new 2018-19 Best Children’s Hospitals rankings published online.

Once again, U.S. News has ranked Rady Children’s among the nation’s best children’s hospitals in all 10 specialties surveyed.

This is the seventh time since 2011 that Rady Children’s has ranked in all 10 specialties.

The 12th annual Best Children’s Hospitals rankings recognize the top 50 pediatric facilities across the U.S. in 10 pediatric specialties: cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.

“At Rady Children’s, we strive to be consistently excellent in providing the highest level of care across the full spectrum of pediatric medicine, from a critically-ill newborn receiving advanced genomic sequencing to diagnose a mystery illness to a teenager receiving treatment for a mental health concern,” said Rady Children’s President and CEO Donald Kearns, M.D. “It’s gratifying to know that U.S News recognizes our enduring commitment to the health and well-being of the children in our community.”

U.S. News introduced the Best Children’s Hospitals rankings in 2007 to help families of children with rare or life-threatening illnesses find the best medical care available. They are the only comprehensive source of quality-related information on U.S. pediatric hospitals.

“The U.S. News Best Children’s Hospitals highlight pediatric centers that deliver state-of-the-art medical care to children with complex conditions,” said Ben Harder, Chief of Health Analysis at U.S. News. “Children with life-threatening or rare conditions need the level of quality care that these hospitals deliver day after day.”

The U.S. News Best Children’s Hospitals rankings rely on clinical data and on an annual survey of pediatric specialists. The rankings methodology factors in patient outcomes, such as mortality and infection rates, as well as available clinical resources and compliance with best practices.

This year’s rankings will be published in the U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals 2019” guidebook (ISBN 9781931469906), available in stores late September.
