Nasopharyngeal swab (Puritan-Sterile Polyester Tipped Applicator) in a sterile container with 0.5 mL sterile saline (lab supplied blue-top pertussis vial)

Collection Instructions

Collection vials and swabs are located in the lab. Insert N/P swab through one nostril into the posterior nasopharynx and rotate the swab, keeping it near the septum and floor of the nose. Repeat using the same swab for the other nostril. Place the entire swab into the collection tube, immersing the tip into the fluid and cap the tube.

Processing Instructions

Place specimen in -70 freezer in the PCR bin upon receipt if testing is not immediately performed.
