Parent Group is designed specifically for parents of children with autistic spectrum disorders to provide education about the diagnosis, special needs, impact on the family and community resources. It fulfills the initial Parent Group training required for new Regional Center clients.
Parent Group also offers the opportunity to develop supportive relationships among families of children with similar issues, as well as assists parents in becoming more effective teachers and advocates for their children by developing behavior management skills, an understanding of play development and special education/therapy options. The group runs eight hours, typically two hours for four consecutive weeks, has limited enrollment, and is facilitated by a professional.
