Curriculum: Fellow’s Education Conference

Fellow’s Education Conference:

  • 2nd Thursday of each month (12/year)
  • 45 minutes (16:30-17:15)
  • Off-service fellows rotate quarterly (4/year/fellow)
  • Topics rotate across 3 years (36 total)
  • Some topics may repeat on annual basis
  • Self-directed, yet precepted, board review series
  • Rotor to assign Red Book chapters, Long textbook chapters, or other materials
  • Fellow presents overview of knowledge acquired (~30 minutes)
  • All fellows expected to read chapters prior to conference
  • Attendings to provide illustrative cases
  • ID PREP review questions at end

Rotating Curriculum

Journal Club:

  • 4th Thursday of month (even months, 6 per year)
  • Off-service fellows rotate quarterly (2/year/fellow)
  • Pair with attending to select 1-2 articles
  • Review article and address clinical implications
  • Formal PowerPoint presentation to the group (including strengths/weaknesses/take home points)
  • Field questions at the end

Fellow’s Case Presentation:

  • 4th Thursday of month (odd months, 6 per year)
  • Off-service fellows rotate quarterly (2/year/fellow)
  • Pair with attending who followed patient
  • In depth case presentation with review of the diagnosis (including primary literature)
  • Formal PowerPoint presentation to the group
  • Field questions at the end

Guest Speakers:

  • 5th Thursday of month (~5 per year)
  • 15 topics across 3 years
  • Fellowship Director to arrange speakers
  • Topics germane to ABP content, but outside typical clinical service
  • May include Grand Round Speakers as well
