Nonsurgical Correction of Ear Deformity
In some babies, correction of ear deformity can be done with an innovative device, enabling irregularly shaped ears to be treated without surgery.
Using the EarWell® Infant Ear Deformity Correction System, our specialists are able to correct a variety of misshapen ears if the baby is seen promptly. We see the best results when infants are treated in the first weeks after birth due to the softness of the baby’s ear cartilage. The application of this device or other ear molding techniques after eight weeks are less effective and surgery may become necessary later in life.
Fitting the EarWell device takes approximately 30 minutes and the baby usually sleeps through the entire process. Our physician assistant and nursing team follows each baby closely to avoid any irritation of the ear. One or two repeat applications of the device every two weeks is often required. We welcome the opportunity to see any infants with ear deformities.
