Bio

Dr. Mamata Sivagnanam is the program director of the Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Fellowship Program at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego and an associate professor of pediatrics at UC San Diego School of Medicine.

Dr. Sivagnanam values medical education at all levels and enjoys seeing a broad range of pediatric and adolescent patients clinically. Her research focuses on congenital tufting enteropathy, a severe and life-threatening problem presenting with intractable diarrhea in infancy. Using modern genetic technology, she isolated epithelial cell adhesion molecule as a gene associated with this condition. She focuses on the effect it has on intestinal epithelial physiology. More broadly, she hopes to gain a better understanding of the nuanced role of the intestinal epithelial in health and disease.
