SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Aug. 28, 2024 – Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego, one of the nation’s top ten pediatric health care systems, and the University of California San Diego are pleased to announce Vincent Wang, MD, MHA, as Chief of Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) at Rady Children’s and Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine at UC San Diego School of Medicine.
In this role, Dr. Wang will lead the Sam S. and Rose Stein Emergency Care Center team while training the next generation of emergency medicine specialists. This includes spearheading important educational and research initiatives related the practice of pediatric emergency medicine and to diseases and conditions often seen in emergency care, such as asthma, meningitis, appendicitis, Kawasaki disease, and traumatic brain injury.
Dr. Wang brings a wealth of experience from his recent position as Chief of Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Director of Emergency Services at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center/Children’s Health in Dallas, home to one of the busiest pediatric emergency departments in the country.

The Sam S. and Rose Stein Emergency Care Center is the only emergency care center in the region dedicated to caring for kids and the only Level 1 pediatric trauma center in San Diego County. The center handles more than 100,000 emergency visits annually and operates 24/7, providing expert care through Rady Children’s Specialists of San Diego, the largest group of board-certified pediatric emergency specialists in the county.

Dr. Wang graduated from Boston University School of Medicine and completed his residency training at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). He completed his Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital. Dr. Wang then returned to CHLA, where he served as Fellowship Director (2000-2006) and Associate Division Head (2006-2018). He was Division Chief of PEM at UT Southwestern Medical School from 2018 to 2024. He is an editor for several editions of the PEM Question Review Book and the Fleisher and Ludwig 5-Minute PEM Consult.
