Dr. Akilah Weber is a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist and leads the Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology Division at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego.
A native San Diegan, she graduated from Gompers secondary school in 1996. Dr. Weber earned her medical degree at the University of Rochester Medical and Dental School in New York, completed her residency at John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County in Chicago and completed a pediatric and adolescent gynecology fellowship at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.
Prior to joining Rady Children's, Dr. Weber was an assistant professor in the Department of Ob/Gyn at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and the principal pediatric and adolescent gynecologist for Children's Medical Center in Dallas.
She has a special interest in treating children born with reproductive defects, people with adrenogenital disorders (which cause an abnormal secretion of hormones) and amenorrhea (the absence of menstruation in women of reproductive age). Her research has been published in several journals, including the Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, The Female Patient and the Journal of the National Medical Association. Dr. Weber also co-authored a chapter on pediatric and adolescent gynecology in the second edition of "Operative Pediatric Surgery."
Dr. Weber volunteers her time giving talks to various churches and community organizations on issues such as puberty, contraception and making healthy choices for adolescent females. She traveled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with the World Surgical Foundation where she participated in both basic gynecologic and reconstructive surgical procedures for adults and children.
When not working, Dr. Weber enjoys reading and spending time with her family and friends. She is married and has two young sons.
