Craniofacial Surgery at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania
Dr. Benjamin Massenburg is a board-eligible plastic surgeon with specialized expertise in craniofacial surgery. His practice encompasses a broad range of procedures, including comprehensive cleft lip and palate care, craniosynostosis, complex cranio-orbital reconstruction, jaw (orthognathic) surgery, functional and aesthetic rhinoplasty, facial reconstruction after trauma, and facial aesthetic surgery.
Dr. Massenburg is deeply committed to restoring form and function for his patients, ensuring they can move forward with confidence. “Whether through cleft care, addressing complex craniofacial conditions, or enhancing facial aesthetics, my goal is to improve my patients’ self-esteem and quality of life,” he explains. “I believe every patient deserves personalized care tailored to their unique journey, and being part of that transformation is both a privilege and a responsibility.”
Dr. Massenburg completed his fellowship training in craniofacial surgery at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He trained in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital, where he earned the Loren Engrav Research Award twice for his innovative research on three-dimensional craniofacial and cleft shape changes. He earned his medical degree with distinction in research from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. During medical school, he served as a Paul Farmer Global Surgery Research Associate, working in Brazil and India on the implementation of the Lancet Commission on Global Surgery and advancing craniofacial surgical care. He earned his undergraduate Biomedical Engineering degree from Harvard University.
Dr. Massenburg is an active member of the craniofacial and plastic surgery community, serving as chair of the residents and fellows committee for the International Society of Craniofacial Surgery. He is also a member of the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association and the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Massenburg enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. An avid outdoor enthusiast, he can often be found surfing, mountain biking, snowboarding, or playing tennis. He also speaks conversational Spanish.
