Bio

Dr. Chu is a pediatric gastroenterologist and transplant hepatologist at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego and is an assistant clinical professor at the University of California San Diego. He is dual certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, with board certifications in Pediatrics and Pediatric Gastroenterology.

Dr. Chu’s clinical interests include a wide variety of pediatric liver diseases including cholestasis, autoimmune hepatitis, genetic/metabolic liver disease, portal hypertension, and infectious hepatitis and is a member of the pediatric liver transplant team.

He is a clinician scientist who is exploring the value of ultrasound as a novel non-invasive way to measure sarcopenia (muscle weakness) in children with liver disease as part of the global assessment of the need for liver transplant and has also just started to collaborate with the pediatric cardiologists as a way to perform similar assessments in children with a Single Ventricle who have had a Fontan surgical procedure and are thus at risk for Fontan-associated liver disease.
