Dr. Fareed Saleh is the Interim Chief of the Division of Emergency Medicine and Medical Director of the Sam S. and Rose Stein Emergency Care Center at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego. He is an assistant clinical professor in the UC San Diego Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Saleh is board certified in both pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine.
Dr. Saleh's primary clinical focus is on pediatric behavioral health with an emphasis on improving the overall patient experience for this vulnerable population. His primary research activities relate to health care systems-based operations with an emphasis on optimizing clinical provider efficiency and streamlining Emergency Department patient throughput. Other interests include quality improvement initiatives, notably reducing variation in management of migraine management for ED patients and standardizing management of agitated patients for ED patients.
Prior to his current position, Dr. Saleh was an attending physician in pediatric emergency medicine at Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C., and held a faculty appointment at George Washington University.
Dr. Saleh completed residency training in pediatrics at SUNY Downstate, followed by a pediatric chief resident year. He also completed fellowship training in pediatric emergency medicine at Children's National Hospital. Dr. Saleh received his undergraduate degree in economics from Harvard University, his medical degree from Wayne State University and his Master of Health Administration from the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University.
