Bio

Dr. Yue Huang is a clinical geneticist specializing in metabolic genetics at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego and an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UC San Diego. His clinic focuses on the diagnosis and management of patients with a range of metabolic disorders. Dr. Huang cares for patients of all ages with suspected or confirmed inherited metabolic conditions, including phenylketonuria (PKU), urea cycle disorders, organic acidurias, and lysosomal storage disorders. In addition to providing outpatient care, he evaluates neonates referred through the newborn screening program and offers inpatient consultation services at both Rady Children’s Hospital and UCSD Medical Center.

Dr. Huang’s research focuses on understanding how metabolic defects affect brain development and contribute to neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism and intellectual disabilities. He is currently working on developing "brain organoids"—miniature brain-like structures grown in lab dishes—to study how metabolic disorders impact the brain. Dr. Huang is also developing genome-editing-based approaches to correct genetic mutations that cause these inherited metabolic conditions.

Dr. Huang earned his medical degree from the University of Queensland School of Medicine in Australia. He completed both of his training in clinical genetics and metabolic genetics through the UCLA Intercampus Medical Genetics Training Program.
