Collection Instructions

Label blood tubes with the actual clock time drawn. For IV busulfan, draw times are related to the starting time of a 2 hour (120 minute) infusion. For instance, the 135 minute draw would be done 15 minutes after the end of infusion, the 150 minute draw would be done 30 minutes after the end of infusion, the 3 hour drawn would be done 1 hour after the end of infusion, etc. Immediately after specimen collection place on wet ice slurry and refrigerated at 4 C. Busulfan degrades rapidly at room temp. Submit each specimen to lab on wet ice immediately after collection.

Processing Instructions

Keep sample on wet ice until centrifuged. Separate plasma as soon as possible and freeze. Labels must have patient name, MRN, date and actual clock time of draw. Include the fully completed Busulfan Pharmacokinetics requisition with the samples and ship frozen. Samples must be shipped on a minimum of 5 kg of dry ice the day they were drawn using an overnight carrier. Saturday deliveries require "Saturday Delivery" specified on the outside package. Prepare shipping materials and requisition a head of time to make the same day shipment run. When shipping label is created, send FedEx tracking number via Epic Chat to "HemOnc BMT Coordinators.
