Collection Instructions
If insufficient meconium (less than 5 grams) is obtained with the first collection, the nurse is to store the collection container at room temp between collections at bedside. Prepare another diaper by lining it with a new plastic liner. Repeat as needed until milk stools begin. When the appropriate amount of specimen is collected, the final collector will sign the Red Security seal and affix it on the container. The final collector will complete the RCHSD Chain of Evidence form (70010). The date and collection on the Chain of Evidence form should be the end date of the collection and should be the same in Epic. Specimen must be hand delivered to lab. Do not send sample through the pneumatic tube system.

Processing Instructions
Complete the MedTox Chain of Custody requisition following provided instruction in folder. Send specimen via FedEx at room temp or refrigerated using the FedEx shipping label provided Monday-Friday. If specimen is received after hours or on the weekend, place specimen with RCHSD Chain of Evidence form in the refrigerated Evidence Box refrigerated to be shipped the next business day. DO NOT SIGN the referral testing section on the RCHSD Chain of Evidence form until sample can be packaged and shipped. The referral testing section is only to be completed by the person that is packaging the sample.
