Lesion swab collected in 3 mL viral culture media (VCM) or equivalent (UTM or UCM)

Collection Instructions

Collect 1 swab per lesion and sample at least 2 sites (2 total swabs). Swab the pustule/lesion vigorously and place the swab into a viral culture media (or equivalent) tube, parafilm the lid, place each specimen in a separate biohazard bag and deliver to lab. Each individual specimen submitted for Monkeypox virus testing should be accompanied by its own separate order. Lesion swab collection kits can be obtained from the main laboratory and can be sent by request (call x225413). Call the laboratory prior to delivery of sample at x225413.
