Collection Instructions

Effective 11/1/96, whole blood submitted in an ACD (yellow-top) tube wil no longer be accepted because of the high incidence of platelet clumping associated with this anticoagulant. If the platelet count is greater than or equal to 45,000, collect 2 mL whole blood. If the platelet count is between 20,000-45,000, collect 5 mL whole blood. If platelet count is less than 20,000, collect 10 mL whole blood.
