Dr. Ron Newfield is a pediatric endocrinologist at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego and a professor of clinical pediatrics at UC San Diego School of Medicine.
After earning his medical degree at Technion, Institute of Technology in Haifa, Israel, he completed his residency in pediatrics at Schneider Children's Hospital of Long Island Jewish Medical Center, New Hyde Park, N.Y., and his fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at New York Hospital-Cornell Weill College.
Dr. Newfield's clinical interests are thyroid disorders and cancer, adrenal disorders and transgender youth, calcium and bone disorders, diabetes and lipid disorders. His active research interests are congenital adrenal hyperplasia, thyroid disorders and thyroid cancer, and type 1 diabetes and prevention.
His philosophy of care is to treat children in a broad and holistic manner, and to address family and other issues that impact children's health.
Dr. Newfield enjoys teaching the residents and endocrine fellows.
When not working, he enjoys swimming, hiking, skiing and going to watch plays or musicals.
