Dr. Amy Hemperly is a board-certified pediatric gastroenterologist at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego and an assistant professor at UC San Diego School of Medicine.

Dr. Hemperly's primary clinical and research focus is inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). She cares for patients with IBD in her clinics at Rady Children's Hospital and the IBD Center at UC San Diego Health. She has a special interest in caring for young adults with IBD and leads a transition program from pediatric to adult-based care.

Her research projects are aimed at improving current practices and outcomes for pediatric patients with IBD. Dr. Hemperly's studies will be important in understanding the relationship between drug exposure and response to therapy and elucidate factors that can influence that relationship. Her research appears in prominent journals, including Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, Clinical Pharmacokinetics and the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition.

Dr. Hemperly completed her pediatric residency at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital and her fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at Rady Children's. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, and the American Gastroenterological Association.

Among her honors and awards, Dr. Hemperly has received the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award Training Grant in Pediatric Clinical Pharmacology, the American Gastroenterological Association-Rady Children's Institute for Genomic Medicine Research Scholar Award and the NIH U54 Pilot Project Award in Pediatric and Developmental Pharmacology for Inflammatory and Infectious Diseases.
