Collection Instructions

1. Carefully insert a flexible-wire swab through one nostril into the posterior nasopharynx and rotate the swab. Keep the swab near the septum and floor of the nose. 2. Repeat the collection steps using the same swab for the other nostril. 3. Place the entire swab into the transport tube, immersing the tip into the fluid. 4. Carefully cap the tube to prevent leakage. Label with patient’s first and last name and DOB or other unique identifier such as medical record number. 5. Remote locations: Store on ice or refrigerate. Transport on cold packs. 6. Results are available within 48 hours of specimen receipt.

Processing Instructions

Do not open bag containing specimen outside of the Biosafety hood. Place VTM in -80 freezer MDL (PCR) bin ASAP.
