1-3 mL or 1-3 grams body fluids, CSF, lower respiratory tract specimens, urine or fresh (unfixed) tissue

Collection Instructions

1 mL or 1 swab wound, exudates, aspirates, lesion material, ocular specimens collected in a sterile, leak-proof container, Amies liquid or gel swab system or Stuarts or ESwab or 1-3 mL or 1-3 g stool collected in a sterile, leak-proof container is also acceptable. Tissues or brushes in transport medium or in a small amount of sterile saline are also acceptable. If KOH is requested second swab must be submitted. Clinicians who send tissues, biopsies, or aspirates for deep fungus should label the specimens as such.

Included Tests

If culture is positive, identification will be performed at an additional charge for each organism. In the event of an initial identification of Coccidioides, Histoplasma, or Blastomyces, the following additional identification methods will be performed at an additional charge. If an additional identification method is required, ITS nucleic acid sequencing may be added.Susceptibilities will be added upon request.
