Collect Monday-Thursday and Friday before 1200 only, not on weekends. Whole blood collected in a sodium heparin (green-top) tube is also acceptable. Specimens collected following a meal can exhibit postprandial elevations. For infants, collect a specimen immediately prior to feeding to avoid this.
