Collection Instructions

Insert swab into posterior nasopharynx and rotate; repeat with other nostril. Place swab into separate Viral Transport Media. Transport to laboratory ASAP.

Rejection Criteria

Sources other than NP swabs, or swabs not immediately placed in viral media. Leaking specimens.

Receive specimen in Main Lab, deliver to specimen to microbiology. If STAT, alert CLS of Rapid Influenza/RSV reflex RP panel.
