Since Rady Children’s first opened its doors in 1954, our mission has been "to restore, sustain and enhance the health and developmental potential of children through excellence in care, education, research and advocacy."
Spiritual Care Department Mission Statement
The mission of the Spiritual Care Department at Rady Children’s is to provide exemplary spiritual care to patients and their families, as well as to staff, giving spiritual support with respect for each person’s faith tradition and spiritual perspective and functioning in an interdisciplinary manner with other healthcare colleagues.
Respect: Respect for each person’s faith tradition and spiritual perspective, in addition to cultural and ethnic identities.
Service: Holistic and interdisciplinary spiritual care with compassion, skill and integrity. We treat those we serve with concern and kindness and act with openness and truthfulness
Excellence: Continuously striving for excellence in our spiritual care, training programs and bereavement support.
Knowledge: Making continuing education a habit for all spiritual care staff and students by providing a wide range of educational opportunities.
Teamwork: Seeking cooperation, collegiality and respect in all our interactions with the spiritual care staff, students, community clergy, professional healthcare colleagues, and the patients and families we serve. We develop and nurture relationships with local faith communities and community religious leaders.
