Rady Children’s makes sure even the tiniest patients feel the love on Valentine’s Day.
The NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (NICU) at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego is a special place.
While Hospital staff provides highly specialized care for premature and critically ill newborns, they also celebrate the small moments—like a baby’s first holiday.
Rady Children’s celebrates holidays in the NICU by dressing tiny patients in festive outfits, creating special photo opportunities and decorating the unit. For Valentine’s Day, that happens to be hearts galore.
Many of the outfits were designed by beloved NICU nurse Linda Black. Known throughout the Hospital for her dedication and Scottish charm, Black goes above and beyond for her patients. She even writes heartfelt poems for NICU families, offering support and a little extra love during their journey.
Rady Children’s 60-bed NICU provides level 4 care, the highest designation available from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Though the care is what draws many families to Rady Children’s, staff also works to provide families an exceptional experience, and that philosophy is echoed throughout the Hospital.
Families play an important role in a child’s care, and Rady Children’s works to make them feel supported.
